Interiors and Films
We are curious to know the person behind @interiorsandilm account? Can you introduce yourself?
My name is Chia. I’m an interior designer running my own design practice, Gendhis Gantari Interior Works in Surabaya, Indonesia. I graduated from the Institute Technology of Sepuluh in November majoring in Interior Design.
Where does your love for cinema come from?
I started to love cinema from a young age. My father was the one introducing me to cinema. From Little Women, The Princess Bride to The Lord of The Rings these are just a few of my early references. I started to watch Asian and International cinema in secondary school.
Does cinema influence your work as an interior architect? If so, how?
Cinema has always been my source of inspiration for designing. It was one of the main reason I decided to study interior design.
What is the difference between the interiors we see in films and the ones you create in real life through your job?
I think interiors in film are a media to support the story and make us understand the characters, sometimes it is even the key to the story. They can also describe or be a witness of a design trend. The interiors I create in real life are an answer to my client needs. But I sometimes use some film interiors stills as a reference to my design mood board.
You must be watching lot of movies! How many movies do you watch per week?
I have probably watched more than a thousand films. I usually watch films on the weekend. I can watch around 4 films per week. I also watch series, animation movies or Korean dramas on weekdays before going to bed. Haha!
If we say “living room”, which movie comes first to your mind?
Parasite
American Psycho
Mon Oncle
The Skin I live In
Scarface
